We switch to Spyker from Earthway several years ago. The Spyker spreaders are much more durable. We were having to replace the Earthway’s every two years. We haven’t had to replace the Spykers yet.

I’m starting my fourth season with the SPY80-S1 (Purchased 07-12-2018, SN SI00049). I apply various products to a 1.5 acre parcel, five times per season. The spreader performs well except that the plastic “Dial Mount” breaks without any warning and causes the “Rate Gate” to open beyond the original setting. This means wasted product and burnt turf grass. Iv’e replaced three so far (the fourth just broke). FYI, I contacted Customer Service during October 2020 to determine if this is a design defect in the early production models and did not receive any feed back (just a new part). I’d hoped that the replacement “Dial Mount” would be manufactured with a “Super Plastic” to resist breakage however that’s not the case. Please note that the “Dial Mount” has a “Hinged” tab with teeth that match the “Dial”. When the “Hinged” tab breaks, it’s teeth release from the “Dial” and the “Rate Gate” opens without warning. From the time you open the box and assemble the product, you’ll understand why Spyker is simply a step above everyone else. I was unsure which brand to choose for my first professional spreader, but I know now that I made the right choice. The thoughtfulness even goes down to which nuts and bolts / sizes are used and this helps with assembly. This is my first professional spreader and it is being used commercially. Absolutely amazing. I have no complaints so far. This spreader is even stored outdoors in the elements and is holding up nicely. Easy to push / rolls over bumps well, easy to adjust, easy to use, perfect size. Works as it should, although the last two I bought would skip teeth on the gears after only a few months of use. They also need a better shower cap from the factory as these are cheaply made. Maybe Spyker should get with Turf Products to get a good water proof one made.
