I got this spreader because I needed a bigger bin on a handheld spreader. This thing absolutely hit the mark and far surpasses anything you can buy in a big box store!! It easily cut my walking in half due to the awesome spread pattern. The dial system and operating this spreader was different for me at first but it became natural after a few uses! Overall if you have a smallish yard in a neighborhood then this will absolutely the best option for the DIY home owner!

This spreader is well built and feels durable while in use. The 25 pound bag holds a good amount of material to seed and fertilize the average home lawn. This spreader is also ideal for use in those hard to reach areas like wooded deer food plots.

Great spreader just wish the opening of the bag was a lil bigger to make it easier adding seed or fertilizer.

Pros:
-Size/weight – It’s easily stored in a small space, takes up only a small space on a shelf versus a larger push style unit.
– Capacity – perfect for most home lawns ranging from 1000 sq ft to 7000 sq ft.
Cons
-Operating is a little of a learning curve.
I’ve used multiple push style spreaders both a Scotts mini edgeguard and a Earthway “bucket style” spreader. Both were initially easier to operate than the bag spreader but storing them was always a pain because they take up so much space. With limited storage space I chose to use this bag spreader as the amount of product I use can easily fit within it’s capacity for my size lawn. Operation of the bag spreader is a bit of a learning curve with opening/closing the gate and rate at which you turn the handle to spin the distribution plate.
I do like that you are in control of how fast/far or slow/close you can spread the material. With practice you can easily apply product in tight spaces or along property lines without it just going everywhere.

I have only used this once for spreading lime and I can already tell it is going to cover all my lawn application far better then the spreaders I have used in the past. I have used the Scott’s wizz which was nice as it was powered but would bog down on full buckets and larger pellets, and if there was one cold night in between application you would need new batteries. Due to this I got a Vigoro a manual spreader but again had issues with larger pellets and I can feel the gears slipping due to poor plastic material. Both units also did not have proper capacity and would need to refill multiple times. Along with hand fatigue from holding the units.
The Spyker solves all these probably, I can fill the bag with 4x the amount of pellets as other hand held units, I really only need about 2.5 to cover my full yard, but more is better. The gears feel really solid and stainless hardware is needed in the PNW. The strap also puts the full weight on your shoulder allowing you to carry the full 25lbs with ease. I will say it is going to take some practice for spreading in tight spots but I can now hold much more and not have to refill the bag for my yard allowing me to apply the application in one walk though.
Super happy with this purchase and excited to apply seed and other fertilizer to my yard year round!
